Rewire your brain and tap into the unknown with journaling & writing
The neuroscience of journaling online talk, July 20th + early bird tickets for Write Your Undiscovered Self online course this Autumn
My journal collection, July 2025
The diarist Anaïs Nin said ‘we write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect’. It’s through writing that we can observe ourselves, our bodies, thoughts, feelings and emotions in space and time in order to gain clarity and perspective. While writing can also be a powerful way to encounter our timeless self in the face we had before we were born, as the Buddhist zen masters put it.
I’ve been writing to make sense of myself and the world around me all my adult life, be it journalism, creative writing, here at Dreaming Awake or keeping a regular journal. Writing hasn’t only helped me to taste life twice but to live more fully, meaningfully and creatively both on and off the page.
If you’re interested in the transformational power of writing, you can join my online talk on the neuroscience of journaling as part of a Seed Talks online summit about neuroscience and creativity on Sunday 20th July. I’m really looking forward to talking about how we write stories not only to give shape to our lives but how writing can re-wire our brains and shape our reality with lots of tips and examples for how to get started or deepen your journaling practice.

And if you’d like to explore how writing can be a tool to access the unknown, feed creativity and support self-discovery through the lens of Jungian psychology, early bird tickets are now on sale for my five-week online course, Write Your Undiscovered Self, starting 29th October.
The course includes an introduction to key Jungian concepts and guided prompts that will focus on writing your ‘undiscovered’ child, great, shadow and future self. Recordings of each session will be made available. This offer ends on August 31st. If you’ve attended the course and know others who would enjoy it, please do share.
